After my poor Nook Simple Touch Died, an early adopter who’d upgraded, saw my distress and very kindly donated her old Paperwhite to my cause. So, here are my thoughts.
1. I am really enjoying not having to go through the extra steps to side load things when I purchase from kindle.
2. The light is less noticeable than I suspected it would be, on the very lowest setting (you can’t turn it all the way off without hacks) there are just a few angles or positions where it is irksome.
3. It is also a benefit, because at night if I wander off and leave it somewhere, I can turn off all the lights and find it from the glow.
4. It is also way easier to check out books from Overdrive/library.
5. I still miss the side page turn buttons.
6. I’m struggling to get used to the menu set up and the fact that taping the middle of the screen doesn’t bring up said menus.
Now that I am in, I will probably never get out again, and unless Google comes out with an actual eink tablet (please do that Google, I’m ready to gorge until I die on a Scribd subscription), I will forevermore be a slave to the Kindle ecosystem.

I love my paperwhite. I believe the new Kindle Voyage has the side page turn buttons.

Yes, the wonderful woman who gave me the Paperwhite has confirmed the Voyage does have side buttons. However, I’m the cheapest of humans, so I’ll wait until this either dies, or until Google gets off its butt and makes the aforementioned e-ink tablet.
I really am enjoying the Paperwhite though. And my former stubborn insistence on sticking with the Nook seems more and more unreasonable.
The other thing I forgot to mention, because it turned out to be such a non issue, but the no SD card thing, not such a big deal.

I have the same issue with the menu button and very much miss the side buttons on the Nook, but I’m also not willing to spend what Amazon charges for the Voyage.
The glow screen makes up for a lot of that though – I do like it.

How long have you been using the kindle? I’m hoping the learning curve will soon come to an end.

I loved mine. Regarding the side page turn buttons…I got used to not having the side buttons on the Paperwhite that when I upgraded to the Voyage I don’t even use them. You have the option of using them or not on the Voyage. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the Paperwhite!
